Peg Leg Sheep

Peg Leg Sheep

When we live without God, we are like sheep without a shepherd.

Jesus often spoke about himself as a Shepherd. In Matthew’s gospel (9:36), for example, he said:

When Jesus saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd.

King David, in his psalms, also prayed about sheep and shepherd, singing:

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. (Ps 23;1)

David was Shepherd Boy

We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. (Ps 100:3)

Peg Leg Sheep

In this activity, we make a sheep to represent ourselves using pegs, cardboard, and yarn.

  • 2 Pegs
  • Yarn
  • Cardboard, scissors
  • Markers
  • Template

Step 1: Cardboard Preparation

  1. Trace the sheep and ears onto your card and cut it out.
  2. Put small nicks into the sheep’s back and tummy to help the wool stay in place.
  3. Colour the tail and ears and draw in the eyes.
  4. Using the scissors or a small knife, make a slit in the head for the ears and insert them.

Step 2: Pegs & Yarn

  1. Place two pegs in position.
  2. Using the pegs to secure the end, wrap the yarn around until your sheep’s body is covered.
  3. Tuck the end under a peg.

Step 3: Pray

Make the Sign of the Cross

  • Leader: Jesus, you are the Good Shepherd. Without you, we are lost.
  • Leader: Serve the Lord gladly. Come before him and sing with joy.

All: We are his people, the sheep of his flock!

  • Leader: The Lord made us; we belong to him.

All: We are his people, the sheep of his flock!

  • Leader: The Lord is good. His love is merciful.

All: We are his people, the sheep of his flock!

  • Leader: Lord God, you are faithful and will never leave us. You send us to bring your love and healing to others. Help us to trust in you.

All: Amen.
