Holy Spirit Novena

Considered the oldest and original novena of the Church, the novena to the Holy Spirit begins on the Friday of the 6th Week in Easter and ends on Pentecost Sunday. It originates in the second chapter of the Acts of the Apostles, when the bewildered disciples and believers gathered together to pray and await the mysterious Advocate that Jesus promised to send after his ascension.

The traditional Novena to the Holy Spirit for the Seven Gifts is quite long, and can be found here at EWTN. In keeping with the spirit of the tradition, CathFamily has adapted it to a simplified version using the the Veni Sancte Spiritus prayer. This simple, but powerful prayer asks for the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and is one of the oldest prayers of the Church.

Veni Sancte Spiritus

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and enkindle in them the fire of your love.

V. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
R. And you shall renew the face of the earth.

Let us pray. O God, Who instructed the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant us in the same Spirit to be truly wise, and ever to rejoice in His consolation.

Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
