Biblical Scroll
July 6, 2012/
Long before books were invented, people used scrolls to record important information. In Jesus’ time, Scribes were specially trained to copy the biblical texts by hand onto new scrolls. These scrolls were then used in the Temple and synagogues for the scripture readings. Create your own biblical scroll of your favourite bible stories and decorating by hand.
Materials:
- 2 Wooden Poles (up to30cm in length, 2-4cm diameter). A curtain rail works well.
- 4 wooden curtain knobs.
- 20 pieces of parchment paper.
- Tape for fixing the paper.
- 1 tassel or curtain tie back.
Method:
- Â Choose some bible stories to include in your scroll. Write, draw or colour your stories and tape them together, end to end, to make a long banner.
- Â Glue or screw the curtain knobs onto the ends of the poles.
- Tape the ends of your banner to each of the wooden poles and roll them up.
- Roll up the scroll and fasten it with a tasseled rope.
